Since the RAVENHEART books are loosely based on the history of the late Middle Ages I have tried to do my research. Admittedly, Scottish (indeed British) history is a bit confusing with all the kings and potential kings, queens and usurpers, etc. The Stewart family is full of kings. And their line put kings on the British thrown as well. I am focusing on King James III, for a short time. He became King of Scotland at 8 years of age. I have him visiting the castle in around 1462, when he was around age 10. I never studied British history until I suddenly got interested on a trip to England, Scotland and Wales. It is so very confusing! Pardon me for any discrepancies with fact. This a fiction after all. (Heads up: Book II will be set in the time of James III. His family Castle Rothesay, on the Isle of Bute, will be under siege by another James, one James MacDonald, a usurper for the Scottish crown). The history will be woven gently around the action that Bernadette finds herself in. Not to mention all the poetic license that fantasy can conjure up.
